Project Overtone is a site-specific crossover artwork where architecture, performance, composition, and vocalization come together and play an equal role. The basis of the work is sound exploration conducted by audio measurements in spaces of different sizes and shapes within a building. For instance a former hospital in Wroclaw (PL) or a former water tower in Axel (NL). Based on the outcome of these measurements an unique composition is written for choir. The composition is performed by a choir in the spaces where the audio measurements were taken; spatial sound characteristics are translated into a human sound. Choir and listeners are part of a site-specific performance where, with sound, a connection is established between architecture and our human bodies. The artwork is described as both physical and emotional.

Artistic Director | Bouke Groen
Bouke has been working as a visual artist from 2008. Since then he had exhibitions at Oerol Terschelling, STUK in Leuven (BE), Soundlands in Wales (UK), the IJsselbiennale, the Netherlands Film Festival and GEM in The Hague. Bouke lives in Tynaarlo (NL), but actually works everywhere. He also coaches artists, does assessments and teaches.
In his work Bouke Groen researches and questions underlying mechanisms that we apply in our interactions with each other and our environment. The focus lies on the undercurrent of filter mechanisms, underlying agreements, motives and assumptions – that what has a profound effect on our relationships between ourselves and what surrounds us, both personally and socially. However, Groen and his work does not take a stance in debates or makes critical statements, but rather reflects on how we treat each other and the world. This is important for his work to establish a relationship with the public without prejudice or pretension. As a result it involves the public in his research, and discovers and experiences their own (unconscious) connection with their environment and each other.
